Not The Rich I Asked For: 1991 Volvo 240 Wagon

I have to feel some empathy towards the seller of this next vehicle…because I’ve been there. He says that it “RUNS A LITTLE RICH CAUSING CHECK ENGINE LIGHT TO COME ON” which is not an uncommon experience with older vehicles (yes, this is a 30 year old car folks), but the part that pulls on my heartstrings is the next part “VOLVO EXPERT CHECKED OUT THREE TIMES AND CAN’T FIND ANYTHING WRONG.” This is rock bottom for the modern classic loving car guy. When you’ve got a problem, but you can’t fix it because you can’t figure out what’s wrong. It is the worst. The only logical conclusion is to sell the car and move on. Find this 1991 Volvo 240 Wagon offered for $3000 in New Cumberland, PA via craigslist. Tip from Cory.

Sorely tempted, but this is one of those period Volvo issues that can test a shade tree mechanic like me. Damn. Awesome car otherwise.
The ’91 models weren’t bad from a shade tree standpoint. Worst case – ECU is going bad. Rich running is likely an air leak somewhere driving the O2 sensor to dump more gas in.
The worst job on my ’90 was pulling the crank sensor that had failed and swollen in its holder.
This one looks well cared for and nicely upgraded / maintained over time… and is already gone!
Runs a little rich? Seems like it runs a little poor. š Sorry, but we havenāt had a dumb ādad jokeā around here for a while. And Iām not even a dad.
Seller says ārareā 240. I donāt recall these being anything close to rare. Seller hyperbole? Or maybe this is the only one in New Cumberland, PA and this guy has never left town.
