3k: Ugly Burrito: 1984 Toyota Tercel Wagon
The S20 generation Toyota Tercel wagon is like an ugly duckling that wasn’t a swan when it grew up, but a turkey vulture. No matter how you try and spin it, this is one car that fell out of the ugly tree and hit every branch on the way down. But, this giant burrito shaped (and colored) wagon might just be ugly enough to be cool. Find this 1984 Toyota Tercel Wagon offered for $3,350 in Santa Barbara, CA via craigslist.
This Tercel is offered as a low mile (54k on the clock) original owner classic that the seller purchased from his “friend’s 92 year old mom.” It is difficult to tell if this is a proxy sale from the current owner or a flip, but the asking price doesn’t look too inflated.
On the inside you’ll see seating for 5 people, a huge cargo section, and a 5-speed manual gearbox (the 4X4 version got an extra granny gear for a total of 6!). The transmission is mated to a 1.5 liter inline-4 that puts out 63 horsepower.

Aw, nutz.
A friend had one of these in high school. It was a turd, but infinitely better than the Dodge Omni it replaced…
I always liked these. Way more reliable then a subaru of the same vintage.
1st with "ATM rear hatch" comment.
*chortle*
I always thought it looked like the ice dispenser on a refrigerator.
Back in the day, that was unique and – pretty much everyone thought – ugly.
Now you've got so many of them, any given Asian-branded vehicle with any kind of cargo capacity has to look like a household appliance of some sort.
And not always from the rear – Nissan seems to have hired a lot of their recent designers from LG or Whirlpool.
ok it's not the 4×4 version, but no "Breaking Bad" comments? Paint it red and channel your inner Jesse Pinkman.
+1! And I'd forgotten that the Tercel was the first Toyota 4WD car sold in the States. Bitchin'!
