2 Seat, 3 Wheels, 4 Sale: 1965 Volkswagen Custom Trike

The Volkswagen Beetle was a slow car. No amount of loud exhaust can fix that and short of building a $10k race motor you can’t go fast in a Beetle…except…maybe you could remove the entire front/top/sides of the Beetle and steer it with a motorcycle front end. Then it’ll be…well…slower than the motorcycle…but faster than the average Beetle. And that’s a good thing. Find this 1965 Volkswagen Custom Trike offered for $4,200 in Bonita, CA via craigslist.

Looks like it could use some groovy lace paint.
How on earth do the controls work? Looks like there’s a brake lever, no visible throttle cables from the handlebars, and no pedals. Then there’s two levers on the left.
It looks like the lever with the big knob under the seat on the left side is the shifter, and the little knob is on the clutch. Normal right hand twist throttle and I guess those chrome things a foot or so above the footpegs must be the brakes. This makes a suicide clutch and jockey shift on an old Harley seem user-friendly. I gather that stop-and-go traffic is not this thing’s forte. Turning either for that matter.
Perhaps the chrome pedal things are split into a brake and a clutch, that would be more sane. That leaves the mystery of what the little lever is, perhaps an auxiliary clutch?
