1k: Porvair: 1972 Porsche 914-6; Corvair Power
The Chevy Corvair was a rear-engined flat-6 powered sedan from the General, and we’ve seen a few with Porsche flat-6 power. The Porsche 914 was a mid-engined car (crankshaft rotates in reverse from the rear engine cars) and we’ve also seen plenty of 911 powered 914s (some from the factory), but never before a Corvair powered 914. Find this 1972 Porsche 914 with 6 cylinder Covair power for sale in La Grange, CA currently bidding on ebay for $510 with 8 days to go.
This Porsche 914 qualifies for a Some Assy Required badge because it needs a full cosmetic make over inside and out. It is currently in running/driving condition, but it needs paint and some attention to the interior.
Pop the rear center hood and you are greeted by a 2.7 liter flat-6 from a Chevy Corvair that has been converted to run reverse rotation to work with the mid engine setup and Porsche gearbox. The seller has used a 110 horsepower version for the conversion, but added bigger carbs and some free flowing exhaust and now says it sounds mean!
The inside is a bit rough, missing carpet and most surfaces exposed to the sun are a bit dilapidated.
This Porsche, at its current low bid, represents a fair amount of work, time, money that was put into a body needing attention. However, a person who can afford to put a few grand into paint will wind up with a cool looking and unique car for well less than the price of buying a finished version.

I want to hear audio of this thing running. Those Corvair engines can sound mean if properly setup. Good find!
Waiting for video. Will post if they send it. Should sound good with those bigger open carbs.
Run it in to your local Porsche dealer for a laugh !
