15k: Pirate Powered: 1969 Mercury Marauder X-100 429ci V8

The Mercury Marauder comes from an era when buyers wanted performance from their full sized body-on-frame luxury cars..and that performance didn’t come from turbochargers or electronic gizmos – it came from displacement.  Those big block engines pulverized fuel economy and turned the air black but will put a smile on your face from ear to ear.  Find this 1969 Mercury Marauder X-100 429ci V8 for sale in Phoenix, AZ for $16,500 via craigslist.

The base Marauder was big block powered beast, but if you were a well-to-do Phoenix strip club owner you were able to step up to the X-100 spec, which added a larger engine and a flat-black painted rear deck/trunk lid.

Under the hood of the X100 is a 429 cubic inch V8 from Ford’s last big block platform (the so called 385) that puts out 360 horsepower and 480 ft-lbs of torque.  The Marauder is a cruiser so we won’t bother with 0-60 and 1/4 mile stats, but lets just say they are on par with the average 4-cylinder family rental sedan today.  But you don’t drive a Marauder to collect time slips at your local drags, you drive the Marauder to slip back in time and drag your friends to strip joints….or whatever.

The exterior and interior of this Marauder looks in great shape and the cool u-handle shifter is a neat feature and we’d find ourselves looking for an excuse to shift gears.
