10k: Seller Submission: 1984 Mercedes-Benz 500 SEC W126 Coupe
The Mercedes-Benz W126 was a generation of the flagship Sonderklasse or special class built in German from 1979-1993. The W126 was designed to have a better ride, improved handling and reduced fuel consumption over it predecessors. The aerodynamic styling helped with mileage somewhat, but it still takes barrels of crude to push one of these boats around the autobahn. Find this 1984 Mercedes-Benz 500 SEC W126 Coupe for sale in Emory, GA for $12,000 via craigslist. Seller submission from Boomer.
The previous generation of S-Class was only available as a 4-door sedan, so when the huge coupe was introduced it really changed the automotive landscape and gave the wealthy American buyers a German option for their large two-door shopping needs. Mobsters now had an option beyond their regular El Dorados and Coupe DeVilles.
This 500SEC is powered by a 5.0 liter version of the M117 V8 and as a grey market can would have been good for 250 horsepower and 300 ft-lbs of torque. Power is transferred to the rear wheels via a 4-speed automatic transmission.
The inside of this 500SEC looks well kept because the W126 interior is built from some kind of granite compound that lasts for ever. It also helps that this one is being sold by the original owner and only has 111k miles on the odometer.

I own three of these (1987, 1991, 1991). Greatest car ever made if you can afford the abysmal gas mileage. A very nice one was on eBay last week for $2K with no bidders. My a dice: buy the most recent years, the early nineties. There is no price differential.
Yeah, this is at least $8000 overpriced…
