10k: Nine Fourteenster: 1974 Porsche 914 2.0 Speedster
The Porsche 914 was created from a collaboration between Porsche and VW
to replace Porsche’s 912 and VW’s Karmann Ghia respectively. The design was finalized as a targa top two-seater, but what if Porsche had decided to create a converible/speedster version? It would probably have looked a lot like this. Find this 1974 Porsche 914 Convertible for sale in Palmdale, CA for $10,000 via craigslist.
The usual 914 targa arch has been hacked off by Beach Boys Racing in Venice Beach, CA and the windshield has been raked back quite a few degrees. The result is a car considerably more dramatic than a stock 914 and only slightly less usable.
The 2.0 liter flat-4 is an updated and evolved version of Volkswagen’s Type IV engine and makes 100 horsepower in stock fuel injected trim. Total vehicle weight is around 2100 lbs before hacking pieces off, and even in stock form it should drive more like a go-kart than a car.
The interior features a bunch of bright red customizations, but retains the original layout and minimalist 914 feel.

The red stripes over the rear fenders give it that 550 Spyder look.
Wow!
Can't decide what to think…
On one hand, it's nice to have the speedster look. On another, looking at it in profile, with the targa section cut off; the car looks back-heavy. For the lack of a better word, too much Booty
And just how rigid is the pan without the basket handle ?
I have to say I love it! Not a 914 that will appreciate due to stock condition but 2.0 is the motor to have outside of a 6 transplant. Wonder about other mods (trans, brakes or suspension)? With losing the Targa arch one has to wonder if they did any further chassis stiffening. The shape and windshield rake is just stellar to my eye, big tail and all.
Holy Chop Job…BATMAN YUK !
Perry here. I think this car looks fantastic. & it has just as much roof as my Lotus 7. None! As for it having "too much booty" that's just the nature of mid-engine cars. Ferraris & Lambos hide their giant butts pretty well, yet they are still there. Like a chubby girl that wears black dresses, vertical stripes & other crafty ass-camo.
Yes, I'd be happy to have this 914. & perhaps date the chubby girl too.
There's no such thing as 'customisations', they are 'modifications' and when you do a bunch of them you end up with something that is 'custom'. Also the wheels aren't gas burners, they're 'Pedrinis'.
I recently found one.its been put up since 1999.but missing the rag top.any Ideas?
