The Ghia 1500 GT is a handsome coupe built by Carrozzeria Ghia with mechanicals by Fiat between 1963-1966. The 1500GT was produced in limited quantities, 846 total according to ghia1500gt.com with only 36 exported to the USA. Find this 1965 Ghia 1500 GT for sale in Los Angeles, CA for $12,000 via craigslist.
This is about as rare as you can get for the price and a quick look around the interwebs shows that the only recent sales include a rusty hulk of a project for considerably more via BringATrailer.com. The buyer of that sale has a detailed forum posted that lists some of the things he is doing here. This one is also a project, but not rusty at all, and is 98% complete according to the seller.
The Ghia 1500 GT uses a 1.5 liter inline-4 from the Fiat 1500 and makes 67 horsepower and is connected to the rear wheels via a 4-speed manual gearbox. The exposed tubular radiator support bar makes up what is a cool feature of the Ghia 1500 – a tubular front subframe.
The above image (from ghia1500.com) shows some of the internal details of the front subframe and a few good views of the car. Internet rumor states that the smooth shaped Ghia was capable of 110 mph top speed – very fast indeed for a 1500 cc powered car of the same era.
This will never be a good daily driver, but it is a Ferrari look-a-like for Kia prices (and Beetle performance) and only needs some elbow grease to get into driver condition. email@example.com
