Xtra Frugal Intelligence: 1992 Geo Metro XFi

The last feature was a sweet white hatchback with a forced induction engine and a billion miles on the odometer…so what’s the logical thing to follow it? How about a 3-cylinder powered hatch with a meaningless XFi designation on the side and only 69k miles on the odo offered for cheap. Find this 1992 Geo Metro XFi offered for $3,300 in San Mateo, CA via craigslist.

Pardon me for pooping in the punchbowl, but that’s not 69,000 miles. It’s a 5-digit odometer with a 1/10th digit. So, it’s either an impossibly low 6,940 miles (not a chance) or it has 106,940.8 miles (assuming it’s not 206K). I’m going to figure the seller isn’t a car person (because… Metro) and this was an unintentional mistake. Price isn’t bad either way. With $5-$6/gallon gas around the Bay Area, these 30-year-old dorkmobiles always go for a couple grand over what you’d expect (current scrap steel).
