Unsalted Lutefisk: 1986 Saab 900S 16V
The OG Saab 900 classic platform (built and sold from 1978-1994) was a mild upgrade on the older Saab 99 platform (which had been designed in the mid 60s). This means you still get an engine mounted backwards AND at a jaunty 45 degree angle mated to the front tires, but the 900 was faster and more refined than the old 99. Today’s 900S is equipped with the 2.1 liter B212 inline-4 that pushes about 120 horsepower into the front mounted transaxle. These aren’t fast cars by today’s standards, but they are chuckable and the 5-speed manual is fun to row. Find this 1986 Saab 900S 16V offered for $7,800 in Davis, CA via craigslist.
