Time Capsule Taco: 1998 Toyota Tacoma Manual Standard Cab

I have a thing for older Japanese vehicles which means I’m always looking at them. Imagine my surprise finding this clean 98 Tacoma with only 64k miles. This plain-jane Tacoma is perfect example of the simple small trucks people continue to desire. Find this 1998 Toyota Tacoma selling for $8500 in Woodland Hills, California via Craigslist.

This beauty appears to have been parked in the shade as the paint and interior are generally in great condition. The driver’s window trim has obvious sun/heat damage and the front bumper has a dent however these can easily be corrected to maintain the stock 1998 appearance.

First generation, base model Tacomas featured the 2.4 liter 2RZ-FE I4 engine rated at 142 hp and 160 lbâ‹…ft of torque. A 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic transmission and this survivor received the manual.

The interior has cloth bench seat which shows no wear on the driver’s side. There are no real interior features to mention, except for the AC. There appear to be no cracks in the dash. The door cards are clean and intact. Aside from the fading of the seatbelt release buttons this could be a picture from 1998.

Replace the front bumper along with the window trim and this blast from the past will make you feel as though you have traveled back to the Golden Age of Asian imports.

Mike D is a big fan of older Japanese cars.
