Subaru Engine: 1965 Chevrolet Corvair

This next feature is an interesting custom that starts with a 1965 second-generation Corvair, which is already the prettier and better-handling Corvair: lower, cleaner styling and a fully independent rear suspension that fixed most of the dynamic weirdness associated with the earlier cars. The original drivetrain is gone, replaced by a 3.3-liter Subaru flat-six mounted ahead of the rear axle, effectively turning the car into a mid-engine Corvair. This Corvair was modified for Road Course Racing although it is totally street legal and a fun road car. The engine is a 3.3l Subaru which is mid-mounted in the back seat. Engine mods are: forged pistons, custom built headers, modified cam and ported heads. It is run by a Mega Squirt Mx3 aftermarket computer which makes it totally sequential and totally tunable. The transaxle is a Renault UN1 5 speed. All wheels are converted to coil-overs and Wilwood disc brakes including a parking brake. After market wheels and tires are staggered. In the pictures, you will an acrylic cover and engine box that encloses the engine. Front and back hoods are true carbon fiber lay ups.
