Strange Noise: 1990 Volkswagen Corrado TDI

The Volkswagen Corrado was a oddball in VW’s 1980s/90s lineup. It somewhat replaced the aging 2nd gen Scirocco, but not really and it wasn’t much sportier than a Golf GTI…so what was it? A VR6 powered Golf chassis based 3-door with a 179 horsepower 12-Valve VR6 motor was a strange vehicle, but today’s example has that VR6 removed to run a 1.9 liter TDI diesel from a 96 Passat. Find this 1990 Volkswagen Corrado TDI offered for $7000 in Hamilton, NJ via craigslist. Tip from Cory.

Build specs in pictures

Things I forgot to ass in build sheet:
Upgraded “metal body” ecu
PD130 intake manifold with EGR delete
Spoonfed Tuning rain tray cover
Clear marker lights
Clear turn signals

The bad:
Small rust spots as mentioned above
Starter motor wires to button/toggle (suspect bad ignition switch)
Sunroof and spoiler motor not working
Needs pass side lock actuator (will not lock automatically but can manually lock)
Shifter is alittle sloppy (could a rebuild kit)
Boot torn on left side CV axle (but drives fine no noise/vibration)

Maintenence items done:
Timing belt/water pump
Glow plugs
Brake pads/rotors all around
N75 valve
Rear wheel bearings
Valve cover gasket
Oil changed every 5k
Both window regulators replaced
Drivers door handle
Parking brake cables
Rear brake calipers
