Spirit In The Sky: 1991 Dodge Spirit R/T

Although it might have been the fastest domestic four-door sedan available in the USA for 1991, the Spirit R/T might not earn you accolades from your neighbors or country club members. Nevertheless, it holds the distinction of being Chrysler’s swiftest K-car ever manufactured, a title akin to being the winner of a burnt toast competition. Despite lacking eye-catching bodywork, the Spirit compensates with its impressive 2.2 Series 3 turbo engine, featuring a Lotus-designed four-valve head that generates 224 horsepower and 210 lbs of torque at a mere 2800 rpm. The car’s exclusive A-568 5-speed transmission allows it to achieve impressive 14.5-second 1/4 mile times. With only 1,208 units sold in 1991, the Spirit R/T is now a rare find, nearing extinction after twenty-five years. Find this 1991 Dodge Spirit R/T bidding for $5,100 in Turtle Creek, PA with 2 days to go via ebay.

Runs excellent. No mechanical issues. A couple scratches here and there and some clear coat missing on the hood that’s normal for Chrysler cars of this era. These cars are such a blast to drive and pretty darn fast even by today’s standards.
PW, PB, PS, original AM/FM cassette, AC(needs charged), 5 speed manual.
Collector owned. Ask me any questions.
Car sold as is,with no warranty, written or expressed.

Is there a difference between fastest sedan in America and the fastest American made sedan?
The 91 M5 was faster (and I imagine stopped better and handled better), but credit is due, these we’re hella fast.
Those are seriously dope rims. Wheels? Sorry my car guy-ness stops before proper nomenclature.
I tried to buy either a ‘90 or ‘91 of these – there were exactly 2 in Ontario (canada) at the time so I was told, they could not be located.
Ended up with a dodge-branded Mitsubishi gallant – great vehicle until it ate the transmission at 90000 kms
Last time I was in a Dodge Spirit the ride was so awful I had to make my friend pull over so I could recover from extreme motion sickness. It’s the only car that’s ever tweaked me that bad, granted my friend is a crap driver and the car probably needed shocks, etc.
Part of the reason I frequent this site, other than a shared fascination for the forgotten and the comically bad vehicles of the world is for the prose, a great example being:
“…a title akin to being the winner of a burnt toast competition.”
