Slow Motion: 1984 Mercury Lynx Diesel

I’m somewhat surprised that a Mercury Lynx (rebadged Ford Escort) would have survived the years of enthalpy, entropy, teenagers, grandparents, and cash-for-clunkers in any shape…much less the pristine condition of the one we see today. Wow. Staggering, for such a miserable penalty box of an automobile. I’m not saying that the Lynx (in DIESEL!) would win the competition for world’s worst automobile ever built, but I can say for certain that it would come home with a trophy from that event. Find this 1984 Mercury Lynx Diesel offered for $6,200 in Lakeside, CA via craigslist. Tip from Rock On!

Beautiful original paint with no damage or rust. Immaculate interior. Owner’s Manual and a new Service Manual. 4 brand new tires with alignment. Complete new brake system including master cylinder and wheel cylinders. Fuel system service and cooling system service including Hoses, thermostat, cap, coolant and all belts. New heavy duty battery. All new wiper blades. K&N air filter. New Front struts. New front axels (mostly because rubber boots were questionable). This Gem gets fantastic fuel economy. I went through this car completely and it will need A/C converted from R-12 to 134a. a washer fluid reservoir ( has crack). Currently hunting new rear shocks. I intended to keep this a long time and to transport my Elderly Mom. She gets in easy and difficult getting out. The condition is amazing with dependability. Reason for selling; I have my sights on a mint Porsche Boxster. Also selling my Motorcycles and Quads. Photos don’t do it justice.
Cousin to Ford Escort.

See a better way to drive sloooooooooooo? tips@dailyturismo.com
If the seller’s Mother has problems getting out of the Mercury, how the hell is she going to get out of the Porsche?
This was exactly what I was thinking…
Hilarious. Who in their right mind would buy an Escort/Lynx diesel? A masochist maybe.
“Currently hunting new rear shocks.” uh, that is an issue. I have an 87 gas version of this ride – a wagon- with Blue Oval instead of any Sign of the Cat, and the options for shocks are extremely limited. as in: buying from europe… if you could locate any stock sgtore by store pver there.
FEOA.net is the web owners group for escorts (lynx-es ). and specifically the 1st gen subgroup has a recent long thread by people searching for rear shocks. with no viable answers.
