Northstar V8 Swap: 1982 Ferrari Mondial 8

This started life as a Ferrari Mondial 8, Ferrari’s mid-engine 2+2 coupe and the relatively practical member of the family — four seats, decent luggage space, and the same basic transverse V8 layout lineage as the 308. The original Ferrari V8 and transaxle are gone, replaced with a Cadillac Northstar 32-valve V8 and its matching GM automatic transaxle. So mechanically this is now much closer to a mid-engined DeVille than anything built in Maranello. Maybe this is the hardtop Allante we’ve been waiting for? Find this 1982 Ferrari Mondial 8 offered for $20000 in Fort Worth, TX via facemondi marketstar.

82 Mondial needs fuel injection service and new battery. Trying to clear out cars at my shop . This car is not for beginners or occasional mechanics. You must have mechanical knowledge. Car is as is but would make an excellent project car. Car features a 32v northstar engine so if you have GM experience that is a plus. I would recommend a Honda K24 turbo but it’s a project car so that’s up to the buyer. Car has never been wrecked and has a clean title. The engine has the stock northstar trans. Car does not have anti lock brakes, cruise control, lane departure, air bags. Car is a nice museum piece but wouldn’t make a good daily driver.

If it makes the Ferrari snobs weep into their Dom Pérignon then I’m all for it. I’d want this if I knew that Time-Sert head bolts have been retrofitted into an engine well known for head gasket failure. Too bad about the Sparco seats though, they’re okay in a purple Civic, but not here.
Needs a Fiero body kit.
Can’t help but wonder what they rear bumper cover may be hiding.
…Also, Mondail prices are all over the place, but this still seems optimistic for what appears to be a non-running, non-original engine project car.
I’m thinking that the weird rear bumper thing might have something to do with structural support for the engine swap…? Who knows, but definitely doesn’t help the look. The video in the listing show it running and doesn’t sound half bad. In any case, I can appreciate the candor in the sellers ad copy.
