Noble Salvage: 1999 BMW M Roadster

This next car comes as a tip from Rock On who writes; For this price, who cares about the rebuilt title? Buy it, beat on it, fix it, repeat. I couldn’t agree more, because I’ve owned multiple salvage title BMW M badged cars (three now that I think about it…) and never regretted the experience. I think that the combination of sky-high OE repair costs and sky-high speeds lead to drivers over estimating their capabilities and the size of the road and then you can buy one (fixed up!) for 1/2 the going price of a clean title example. Nobody on the road knows its been salvaged and the only difficulty you’ve find is that scares off some potential buyers when you go to sell it. All things considered, if fixed properly, this M Roadster will give you 100% of the enjoyment of any other M Roadster for 50% of the price. Find this 1999 BMW M Roadster offered for $8,500 in Covington, LA via craigslist.

1999 BMW M Roadster for sale. Engine and drivetrain have about 33,000 miles on them. Full custom supersprint exhaust system. Roof is in good working order. Car is in good condition. I have the original famous 5 star rims to go with the car. Rims and exhaust alone are worth over $5,000.This car is AMAZING FUN to drive and the lines are beautiful. This car was a barn find that sat for years and became my baby project and I hate to let her go. If you want a little bit of a project and a smile from ear to ear then this car is for you.

2 things:
1. 100% agree salvage title not an issue when car is priced right which this one is.
2. Those wheels look terrible. BMW nailed the OEM wheels on these and so glad the seller is including them because these things probably ruin the ride as much as they ruin the look.
I’m ok with the wheels though they do look a bit too big on a car with these proportions.
The interior is a different story. I don’t think there’s a price “right†enough for me to want to surround myself in that. It’s gaudy.
Don’t they make body kits to make this look like a NA Miata ?
You would still be stuck with that interior though.
I actually like the interior of these, especially in blue.
Someone needs to make a conversion to breadvan 🙂
The interior might be gaudy today, but in a few years it’ll be desired and cool to own. Think of the crazy plaid interiors in early GTI or some of the gonzo interiors you find in 1950s American cars.
The e46 M3 wheels are flat-out ridiculous on this car, full stop. Worse though, and speaking to the quality of the repairs, are the awful door to front quarter panel gaps. I’m afraid she was patched up in a backyard garage by a friend of a friend who took a semester of auto body in tech school.
I’d be as concerned with the auxiliary battery in the passenger seat auxialiary battery compartment.. That and Covington is across Lake Ponchartrain from New Orleans. The humidity is off the charts starting about now. You need either a convertible and drive fast or some hella a/c. With the top down you’d end up with a beard of lovebugs.
