my daughter was about to turn 16 as we were due to take delivery of my 1st MINI, an 06. also a manual. daughter was already car obsessed & i took her out driving on seasonal use highways (questionably, minimally maintained dirt roads) in NY state in my 89 mazda 4wd truck before she was of minimum age to drive on roads. she learned manual trans by starting off using the gears in 4wd low range as a way to understand clutch with minimal emotional trauma. she took her road test in that 06 mini: parallel park & 3 point turns all done with its 3 pedals & stick shift. passed 1st try. get her this one, & keep the manual trans “gene pool” alive!
