Needs Some Work: 1986 Saab 900 Turbo

There was a time when $1500 got you a fairly drivable car that you could drive around town and restore in your spare time…but the nasty thing called inflation has driven the price of all but the rustiest boat anchors up a few digits and now a $1500 Saab that needs a transmission might be a good deal. Find this 1986 Saab 900 Turbo offered for $1500 in Bay Shore, NY via craigslist.

From the seller:
1986 Saab 900
fuel: gas
odometer: 90000
paint color: blue
title status: clean
transmission: automatic
Car needs a transmission. Would be a good candidate for a manual conversion. Has around 90,000 original miles. Interior is in good condition other than needing headliner. Body and paint are in pretty good shape. These cars are starting to get very rare and are going up in value, can be a good restoration project. Asking for $1500 or best offer.

…from iluvbeagles? Something doesn’t smell right here.
Thx to my justified skepticism of any vehicle sold in either NY or NJ, I’d emphatically recommend a detailed prior scrutiny of both the Saab and the iluvbeagles drivetrain fo-sho.
