Gem or Guano? 1980 Fiat 124 Sport Spyder

Let’s play a game. Somebody said you can’t get a decent $500 car anymore, but I think that is not entirely correct. Sure, you won’t find the plethora of running/driving cars that you could find 15 years ago, but you can still find an occasional gem in the guano. Find the best $500 car on your local craigslist/autotrader/facebashmorket/etc. I’ll kick this off with a 1980 Fiat 124 Sport Spider offered for $500 in Yucaipa, CA via craigslist.

From the seller:

Need to move out of my yard.

This Alfa spider is at least as good, it even is alleged to run!

It doesn‘t run, he says so twice for emphasis. I think we didn‘t need him so say so, the pictures speak for themselves. Offer $250, he‘ll probably take it. Imagine the before-and-after pictures once you‘ve put $10K into the restoration.
I’m laughing that he said it once.
Max 363.82 quid, running, no “spares or repair”? I’ll take this Quantum H4i for 240 and keep the change for half a tank of petrol. Oh, I’ll be laughing as a nice one sold at auction for 1100. But I probably won’t fit in it. And it’s in Devon, which is really far from here. And it’s really yellow with incredibly ugly seats. Meh.

It is rather beautiful, would make a great wall sculpture if cut in half.

Its hard to find a car for, say $100 – $500 because nearly every hit is some sort of lease offer on a newish car.
Anyway, here’s a $500 2001 Focus that needs some engine and brake work. I offer this in part because every one of the several photos is remarkably out of focus. Ironic?

Having about the same problem on my local Facebook, but there is some slime to be found at the bottom of the barrel. Here’s a mostly complete Jeep mail truck:
Send it!
