Fun Sized Candy: 1974 BMW 2002

The BMW 2002 is the car that taught the world what a sporty small sedan should feel like: light, simple, rear wheel drive, and just enough power to make you grin without needing a roll cage or a trust fund. This one is the right kind of project, a solid shell in that perfect “rescue me” stage, with the fun bits already in the pile like side draft carbs, a header, and an upgraded radiator, plus the bonus of earlier chrome bumpers for extra vintage points. It is not running and it is in pieces, but that is kind of the point: you are not buying transportation, you are buying a winter’s worth of therapy with a straight body as your starting advantage. Find this 1974 BMW 2002 offered for $7,500 in West Seattle, WA via craigslist. Tip from Zach.

more ads by this sellerI have this solid vintage 1976 BMW 2002 for sale in excellent non running condition. It’s a project for sure and it is currently in pieces, but a great project for the winter. It’s surprisingly rust free, well maybe not be totally, but the least I have ever seen in my years of owning them. Just went over over the entire car with a rust detector and it’s amazingly rust free, especially in all the bad rust zones. I’ve owned 8 in my lifetime and is the main reason I bought it. It is currently not running, but seems like the engine is almost complete, and has extras like a header, dual side draft carbs and upgraded radiator. As far as I know it’s just missing the some minor parts. I’ve never heard it run. Has pre 1973 chrome bumpers, not pictured, but rust free too.
$7,500 OBO
No tire kickers!I’d like to sell it locally, but will be posting on eBay in the near future.
I don’t know a whole lot about it. I bought it to restore it, but I lost my garage space. Will not respond without a phone number. Can be seen in West Seattle. I can accommodate your schedule given some advanced notice. Clean title in hand. I will not hold without a $300 non refundable deposit.
If your looking for a great long term investment you cannot go wrong with this one. You will not be disappointed if your looking for a good solid body and all the engine parts with extras if that’s what your looking for. Check out eBay for what they’re selling for fixed up.
IT’s NOT A TURN KEY RUNNING CAR!

Well, I like the Pepe Le Pew themed interior. I’m assuming it does not smell like a French skunk.
Also, keep in mind that the factory was able to boost the m10 engine up to around 1500 horsepower. There was a two second turbo lag, so not exactly very drivable, but it’s the only car that I can think of that came with the same block as a winning F1 car.
Have you ever driven one with a supercharger kit? I had a 1970 stock 4 cylinder (carbureted). Loved that thing.
But if I had another… I’d most likely put a whiner on it…it’d just be too tempting not to…
