Fun Sized: 2016 Ford Focus ST
This next car comes with a salvage title and a check engine light. How bad can it be? I shouldn’t have asked that. Becuase this isn’t a 1990s Ford that can be fixed with a screwdriver and a weekend, this is a modern vehicle with tight packaging and beaucoup electronic connectors with things like CANBUS connectors and touchscreens that control everything. They work great, right up to the point when they don’t. It’ll be interesting to see in 10 years if there are more 20 year old cars like this or 30 year old cars like the SVT Focus still driving on the road. DTs pithy rumination about the durability of tech loaded vehicles may be part of reason German auto MFGs are moving to make their vehicles fully recyclable. Aint no fix to many of these after the spares & supply chain no longer make legacy panels & connections. for comparison, think vintage computers SCSI, Parallel Ports & 9 pin serial, NuBus, PCMCIA , IDE drives etc. & that is not even considering 10-25 y.o. screens. Back to automotive acronyms, SBC swaps can only solve so much.
