El Coupamino: 1936 Chevrolet Coupe

This next car comes as a tip from Rock On who writes: DT, it appears that your goal to turn every vehicle into an El Camino, is much older than you are! Hey. How do you not know we are as old as the 3 fellows with shadows that look amazing in the first photo? I can smell the Bengay and see the worn flannels in those shadows. But, yes, custom El Caminoization of cars is not new. Find this 1936 Chevrolet Coupe Pickup offered for $25,000 in Issaquah, WA via craigslist.

Dang. Given my love of Rancheros and El Caminos, it’s crazy I’ve never heard of this.
My rabbit hole for this morning. 1937 and later models had a removable pickup bed for those who wanted to a true “convertible” pick-em-up truckar:
Also known as “The Foreman’s Pickup”, it cost $100 more than the $475 half ton pickup and carried less than a quarter as much.
A hundred bucks back in 1936 was almost $3,000 more, in today’s dollars…when the average salary of a construction worker was $900 A YEAR.
$475 = $10,736 in 2024
$580 = $13,109 in 2024
