El Caminito: 2006 Volkswagen Jetta TDI

There was a time when Volkswagen made a rad little pickup truck based on their Golf/Jetta platform, but the Caddy was long gone by the time the 5th generation (Mk 5) Volkswagen Jetta was released into the wild (2006-2010). However, the aftermarket stepped up to right this terrible injustice and Smyth kits was born. Call it a mini El Camino or ute or whatever you want. Find this 2006 Volkswagen Jetta TDI offered for $12,995 or best offer located in Miami, FL via hemmings.

From the seller;

This is a 2006 Volkswagen Jetta TDI Ute Conversion, finished in blue with a gray interior.

This Jetta Ute is equipped with a 5-speed manual transmission.
The attached Carfax history report indicates no accidents or mileage discrepancies in this VW’s past. It also lists registrations in Florida and California from new.
Factory equipment includes a sunroof, leather upholstery, power windows, locks, and mirrors, heated seats, and automatic climate control.
A partial list of other modifications includes 18-inch Porsche wheels, custom fender flares, a sliding rear window, rear spoiler, a Stage 1 ECU tune, EGR system disable, and an aftermarket touchscreen head unit.
The fifth-generation Volkswagen Jetta was produced from model year 2006 to 2010 and was the first with multi-link rear suspension — it was also slightly larger in most measurable categories than the outgoing model. The TDI was reportedly the most efficient version, with an EPA rating of 35 MPG city and 41 MPG highway.
Power comes from a 1.9-liter turbodiesel inline-4 engine, rated at approximately 100 horsepower and 177 lb-ft of torque in stock form. This engine may be making more power as a result of the modifications, though a dyno sheet was not provided to confirm. Output is sent to the front wheels through a 5-speed manual transmission.
This Jetta has 239,432 miles on its 1.9-liter turbodiesel inline-4 engine and has a lot of life left. It runs smooth and it runs strong. Recent oil and filter change was done. Previous owner who did the conversion changed the following:
Transmission serviced
Engine flushed
Fuel, air, and cabin filters replaced
EGR cooler replaced (mounted, but not functional)
New windshield installed
I have put several hundred miles on the car without any issues. I recently just acquired another vehicle, and I am out of space. If given the right offer, I will let it go but I will not give it away. I will gladly drive it to VW events a couple times a month then take a low-ball offer.
