DT’s Christmas Star: 1985 Volvo 240DL Wagon

I’d love to post every tip that we get into the DT inbox (well, maybe not the strange “missed connection” links that Kaibeezy always sends in…those we’ll keep for…ummm…nevermind). The point is…I’d post every single tip if I had the time, but I’ve got a job and a mortgage and kids that need to be driven to soccer practice and Buicks that need maintenance and a tinnitus in my right ear from welding on a muffler filled with unburnt exhaust gases and then there are those “missed connections.” Regardless, despite that, incongruently, I’ve got to report an event on the level of a cosmic conjunction, similar to the 2020 Christmas star when Jupiter and Saturn were seen on top of each other late last year. This next car was tipped by not just one, but by two legends of car hunting, juggernauts of the DT tips line — imagine Bruce Lee and Jackie Chan teaming up to kick some ass at the same time. Yes, that level of awesome. This next car was tipped simultaneously by both FuelTruck and Rock On! Find this 1985 Volvo 240DL Wagon offered for $3,600 in Palo Alto, CA via craigslist.

Looks like that wagon still has a few more good years of life in it. Seller certainly didn’t scrimp on maintenance.
Vince, are you cross at me for frowning disappointedly at all your big, beefy, muscular, high-horsepower yet ultimately unsatisfying stickless cars? We’ve already talked about you joining the team and going stick-only. Maybe it’s time? Lucy here is a good start. Then you can tell me about a T-handle swap for the Roadmaster. That’ll make it all better.
I’m was the guy driving a flappy paddle SMG equipped M3 down south down State Street and you were dipping french fries in Arby’s sauce while double clutching a Saab Viggen driving north. Let’s meet for lunch sometime.
SMG M3, fine. Just not that CTS or I’ll lease a white Prius.
“4sp with working over drive”
As a former owner of a 4sp Volvo with shifting randomly when it feels like it over drive I’m impressed.
As a participant in a discussion with my mechanic about why one couldn’t simply bypass* the switch and getting a tutorial about hydraulics I’m doubly impressed.
*any electrical fault that can’t be cured by a switch and six feet of wire is the product of witchcraft.

Whoa. That took a dark turn. I think we’ve got some addiction specialists that can help you Hugh!!
Can confirm that these covers are of good quality –

Is ’85 in the biodegradable timeframe?
Geez the driver must have had rocks in his back pocket when he drove this box. That or they are making really huge rivets on Levis. That is some serious seat abuse. But it does have the coveted end series blue/yellow plates which will bring approving nods from the plate cognoscenti; just not in that neighborhood.
