Cheap W124: 1993 Mercedes-Benz 300E

The W124 generation of E-Class was built in Germany from 1984 through 1997 in various configurations such as a 4-door sedan, 5-door estate wagon, 2-door coupe, 2-door convertible, and 6-door limousine. Engineering development of the W124 started back in the late 1970s and the Bruno Sacco design was elegant, sophisticated, and unlike anything else on the road. Innovative features such as the single windshield wiper with an eccentric mechanism, switch-activated retractable rear headrests, and servomotor controlled silently self closing rear hatch (wagons only) means that maintenance can be expensive if you aren’t a mechanical savant with time to watch long youtube DIY videos. I’ve restored a W124 from the “almost free” condition you see here today and can confirm that you do it for the “love of the game” not for profit. 1993 white 4dr 6cyl sedan. Missing passengers seat. Sunroof, power dr locks, and rear passenger window work. AC, and 3 windows are not working. Radio needs code to unlock. The AC compressor was bypassed for fuel efficiency.
Starts right up. However, when cold starting, you must apply a little gas pedal until it warms up. Usually about a minute. Runs smooth and powerful. Tires are good. Up to date with smog Mar 2026 and clean paperwork. Check pictures, ask questions.

I believe you will find that this is actually a 300e 2.8, which was a kind of value leader for the class. It had the same 2.8 litre @ 190 HP engine that was used in the C280, whereas the 300e had a 3.2 litre @200 HP engine (and leather interior as opposed to the MB tex you see here).
The 2.8 was a great buy at the time and scooted down the road nicely.
I was all excited seeing this with the body in nice condition – then I saw the interior. Lord knows where you would ever get a creme beige MB tex seat for that thing. Maybe just install a backwards facing chez lounge?
