Cheap For A Reason: 2000 Cadillac Catera

The really expensive Nissan Pulsar NX we featured earlier today got me asking the question — what is the cheapest car on your local craigslist? First, you need to remove any cars/trucks by dealers because you’ll get all kinds of lease junk, then you will need to add a bunch of tags that remove junk listings, like “-para -credit -rental -rent -lease -junk -buy” to the search field. Now, you find the good stuff. Some of it is things like Volvos with busted transmissions, or Mercedes-Benzes that have been rolled, but then you find the good stuff. Like this 2000 Cadillac Catera with only 50k miles on the odometer for $600. Wait, is it a scammer? What kind of scammer would pay $5 to put up an ad for a Catera? Seriously. This has to be real. Really awesome. Of all the cars to attempt to trick someone into sending you money, I can’t believe this isn’t real. It’s gotta be real…right?

From the seller:
2000 Cadillac Catera
condition: excellent
cylinders: 6 cylinders
drive: rwd
fuel: gas
odometer: 50555
title status: clean
transmission: automatic

4 door sedan, excellent condition, perfect family car! Runs and rides smooth as a Cadillac should. Cruise control, power everything.

Your kidney-less body will be dumped in one of the storage units, only to be found when it is opened during an episode of Storage Wars.
Don’t say you weren’t warned.
Who needs kidneys.
Duck amuck. Remember the ads that featured a drunken duck that walked like Groucho Marx? An Opal in the rough. A misplaced decimal point.
Did anyone come up with a fix for that timing belt tensioner?
I’d fix the timing belt tensioner with an LS swap. Wonder if you would just need a few bits from the GTO parts bin?
