Born from Bets: 1983 Saab 900 Turbo

DT Editor-in-Chief Vince Barbarie: Happy Friday DT readers! This next car made me do a double-take. It looked so much like the old Saab 99 Draken that I thought I might need to dip into my project car savings for a second round with the Draken, but this is not just a Saab 900, but also a 900 Turbo! But that spleenic red paint still looks good and the idea of a turbo version of the old Saab sounds great. Find this 1983 Saab 900 Turbo offered for $2,500 in Florissant, MO via faceturbo saaaaaaaaabook.

Seller’s description
Selling this car as a project. You will need a trailer to get it home. It ran when parked about 7 years ago. Needs extensive fuel pump work. Replacement pump included. Has some electrical gremlins too. Interior and body are in great shape and no rust. Has been stored indoors as long as I’ve owned it which is over twelve years. Spare motor, trans, hood, wheels, and other parts could be included if desired. Knowledge of Saabs or older cars is recommended.

Dream scenario if you could get this qualified for LeMons. So many hours spent in your garage figuring out how to get it to run. Heaven.
When I was a teen, had a buddy who’s dad had a Saab 900 turbo and Saab 99. I wish I could post pics here of the wheels he had, they had 2 skinny tires on each wheel similar to the old GoodYear Aquatred tires and that turbo…mmmm turbo. I ended up trading 76 MGB GT for the yellow/green interior Saab 99. I’d love to see it with the restomod treatment.
