Beetle Flambé: 1969 Porsche 356 Kit Car

This next ride is hot. Smokin’, you might say. The seller (auction giant copart) says it is a 911, the vin (119220600) says it is a Beetle, but my eyes says it’s a 356 Speedster kit car. Whatever it is, it’ll leave black marks on the pavement wherever it goes and never leave you cold. Find this 1969 Porsche 356 Kit Car with a $0.00 starting bid on copart.com, located in North Carolina.

Ran when blowtorched.
How much could be salvaged really from something like this? Seems like it’s a pay someone to take it away situation.
The Beetle floorpan, suspension, transaxle, and engine… maybe. At least parts of them should be salvageable. Depends how hot the fire was; it melted fiberglass, but that doesn’t take much so the mechanicals may not be as bad as one would think.
But still, what’s the point? You can find Beetles everywhere with those same parts that haven’t been subjected to the stress of intense heat. That motor would have to be a built 1800 or bigger to make it worth considering, but even then I’d avoid it.
This looks like a giant pile of friable asbestos to me. I get that it is fiberglass but at the end of the day you could not pay me enough money to be within ten feet of this health hazard. Also, neither a 356 nor a Beetle is a 911 so if the if the VIN is indeed for a Beetle, f*ck these guys six ways from Sunday for advertising it as such. The one thing a high volume totaled car seller should be able to do is run a VIN search. Not that any of the people currently driving the 911 prices into the stratosphere would ever buy this thing but still. Run your business ethically, y’all.
Those were nice Recaros!
I remember back in the 80s car thieves would buy burned out/wrecked Honda Accords and Preludes because they could get them for pennies and then transfer the VIN plates (not all, just the visible ones) to stolen cars.
Was a cheap way to make hot cars a little cooler.
Not sure I could say that about VW Beetles these days, though I have seen some top $25K.
-Stan (who *still* can’t see anyone buying this smoking heap of dung unless it’s for an art project)
…ah… but maybe Copart is counting on a REALLY dumb car thief who’s just boosted a 911 and is looking for a cheap title?
No?
Wait. No title.
Strike that idea.
I got nothin’.
