Bagged and Tagged: 1968 Mercedes-Benz 280SEL W108

We had such a good time posting beautiful German cars designed by a Frenchman that we wanted to post yet another classic Fräulein, but this one has a long wheelbase and is bagged. And when I say bagged, I don’t mean like it has been put inside of a bag…but that the suspension has been modified to use inflatable air bags and now it can be stanced or lifted at the flick of a switch. Find this 1968 Mercedes-Benz 280SEL offered for $10,000 in New Hampshire via craigslist. Tip from Carter.

From the seller:
1968 Mercedes Benz 280sel

transmission: automatic

What’s up Craigslist , I hate to do this but I’ve hit some hard times , so I’m selling my bagged 1968 Mercedes Benz 280sel, this car is very clean , I bought the car last November and did a ton of work to it , I replaced plugs, wires, coil pack , upgraded to electronic points , new battery , new front brakes and calipers , replaced brake line , gas line , transmission shifter bushing , replaced fuel pump , subframe bushings , and I’m sure I’m missing a few things, also custom air ride , 3p management system , clean trunk system. Also have a set of 16×8 bbs rs’s to throw on also

The bad , neeed to bleed brakes and get new rear brakes plus calipers, I might do them before I sell . Also I’m gonna upgrade the alternator , since doing the airride seems like original alternator isn’t giving it enough juice to charge battery properly .
Cash is king but I’ll take a trade if it’s the right car , mostly would want a vw beetle or bus.

Had a 72 280 SE (shorter) with the 4.5L V8.
Built like a 4,000 lb Swiss watch.
Loved to look at it.
Which is pretty much all I did, since it was always taking days/weeks/months off for electrical or mechanical problems.
Fun to sit in though… and go “Vrooom! Vrooom!”

Beautiful car already, $ putting the bags on it would have been better spent tidying it up. I doubt there’s much market for this at the price as the mods significantly detract from the package.
