Auction Watch: 1993 Volkswagen Corrado SLC VR6
Take a look at this 1993 Volkswagen Corrado SLC VR6 here on eBay bidding for $25,108 reserve-not-met with auction ending Wednesday at 5:30AM Pacific.
I don’t want to sound like a hater, but I’ve got to admit that I don’t understand the bidding on this car. Sure, it might be the nicest example of a Volkswagen Corrado you’ll find anywhere, but do you really expect people to pay more than the price of a nicely optioned new Golf GTI (with less miles!) for a car that you can’t really drive around without getting hit by instantaneous depreciation? Sure, you would win first place for original cars at the next Dubfest car show, but is this a car or a Beanie Baby? Certainly a cool car, but I can’t imagine paying much more than $10k for this…IMHO.

1993 SLC with 10k miles. No other one like it. Still has a new car smell. All original.
For that kind of money you can have a really nice E39 M5. Or a really nice first-gen CTS-V and a nice E39 5-series wagon. Or a C5 Z06 and…
I have to assume the bidder has a VW museum or something, 'cause the Corrado wasn't a particularly special drive, it wasn't particularly fast, the motorized seatbelts render it IMO useless as a driver. I could see someone spending this money for a perfect early Scirocco, but a Corrado?
You have any experience with the 1st Gen CTS-V? I drove one when they were new, haven't since. How have they aged, mechanically?
I agree about the current price, but disagree about "special drive". It was actually one of the best handling FWD's (I know—oxymoron alert) I've ever had the pleasure of driving. And the VR6 made some of the best engine sounds this side of a flat plane V8. It's a pity they weren't put together particularly well though.
I always liked these, but 25k is just crazy talk
What the hell figure could the seller have in mind? Curious to know how many of the 41 bids are "hisself" and a couple of buddies. 41 bids?? What other mediocre cars are out there with similar pent up demand?
Olds Alero? Dodge Shadow? Subaru Justy? Daewoo Anything? Ford Tempo?
I suspect you are correct Tom….the "winning" bidder on this one had 14 recent bids on various auctions, and 78% of them were with this seller. Smells like a rat.
