Are You Kidney Me? 1991 BMW 535i E34

A quick trip to BMW’s USA sales website makes me pine for a time when a “kidney grill” wasn’t a grotesque polygonal shaped icon that exemplifies the corpulence of the modern era. The twin kidney shape was a decorative throwback to first BMW grill and not a predator mouth shaped abomination. There was a time when BMW made handsome sedans with manual gearboxes and elegant styling…and you can drive one today without selling any of your actual kidneys. You need those. Find this 1991 BMW 535i E34 offered for $13,300 in Smithfield, RI via craigslist. Tip from Cory.

Beautiful and rare 5 speed E 34 BMW. Only 5% of these cars were built with a manual transmission totaling only 6469 cars. This car also has the factory limited slip differential. The body of the car is in a very good condition with minor paint imperfections here and there and no underfloor rust. There is only one small spot starting on the bottom of 1 of the doors inner edge.

I purchased the car from a friend of mine towards the end of summer it needed a fair amount of work to be ready for the road again. I have fully serviced the car and I will list what I’ve done here.. This car has all 5 of its original alloy wheels 4 of which have brand new tires with only 3000 miles on them.. I replaced the water pump and the cooling fan clutch clutch on the engine. All 6 of the fuel injectors have been replaced with updated 4 hole nozzle injectors. The throttle body gasket has been replaced.. All the copper spark plugs have been removed and replaced with platinum spark plugs. New distributor cap and rotor. All 3 of the V belts have been replaced . The rear rotors and pads have been replaced along with the rear struts new original equipment billstein rear Springs and strut mounts. The transmission was serviced with automatic transmission fluid that is required for this getrag 260 5 speed transmission. Some take gear oil some take automatic transmission fluid this particular one takes ATF which is better in cold climates. As I mentioned before the rear differential has a limited slip and it was serviced with the appropriate fluid. Both the supply and return line from the gas tank to the engine compartment where replaced with nickel copper hard line and the rubber fuel lines in the engine Bay were replaced with high pressure fuel injection hose. The car’s original 140 amp alternator was just rebuilt.. The slave cylinder for the clutch was replaced and all the fluid exchanged.

The windshield wiper transmission was removed from the car and a new drive arm and drag link were installed Along with new isolator bushings where it goes through the cowl. The body control module also referred to as the general module that controls basically everything in the car was replaced with a module out of a 1995 E34 which is regarded as the best module and it also has One Touch window function which the original did not. The car’s factory dual exhaust manifolds are still on the engine with the stainless steel downpipes from the factory going into a flowmaster scavenging Y pipe and into a 3″ fully welded exhaust with a magniflow muffler and dual 3″ tip. It may be a little loud for some but you can easily cut out the muffler that’s there and throw in a much quieter one if you choose. Last a brand new Kenwood CD media player with Alexa Pandora spotify android auto and APPLE car play was just integrated into the factory wiring harness. This car came with a factory amplifier and 10 speaker audio system. It is quite a chore to integrate an aftermarket stereo Into these cars without cutting wires but it is done and now the car has a small sub In the trunk to add a little bit of low end and an amplifier with 65 W X4 for the interior speakers.
The interior of the car is light Gray leather with a sun roof. The condition of the interior is in good shape however the leather on the driver’s seat does show its age and there is a tare in the bottom of the rear Seat. I have priced replacement leather and they make Exact match kits for the front seats and rear for $1100 if you choose to replace it.
Everything listed here has been completed in the last 3000 miles. It runs and drives great and has that as that amazing early BMW steering feel. This is a great car with a solid body and very mechanically sound. I will listen to reasonable offers from serious buyers only please don’t call and try to Low ball me. The E34 series BMW’s are hard to find especially with this car’s options and Extensive service.
The original window sticker, books along with 2 keys come with the car.
