A Restomod From The Ashes: 1979 Pontiac Phoenix

Just what is a Pontiac Phoenix? From 1977 through 1979, it let Pontiac keep a foot in the affordable compact market without developing a car from scratch. Sharing parts with the Chevrolet Nova, Olds Omega, and Buick Skylark (and Apollo), the X-Body Phoenix is one of those malaise era American cars with a big footprint and a small carburetor, but today’s example has been equipped with an L-82 350 from a Corvette and a Tremec 5-speed, making it way more fun than anything concours-ready. Find this 1979 Pontiac Phoenix offered for $16,500 in Ephrata, PA via craigslist. Tip from Rock On!

This is the Pontiac version of the 79 Chevy Nova. I have owned the car for 16 years. Powered by 1978 Corvette L-82 350 with Howards cam; Summit Cast Iron heads (Dart Iron Eagle); Edelbrock 1406 carb and Performer intake; rebuilt 5 speed Tremec 3650; 3.73 rear gears. Power front disc-rear drum brakes. Quick ratio power steering. No rust–original floors and trunk are very solid! Beautiful Garnet Red paint is 12 years old—still looks great!; Dakota Digital gauges are excellent! (total mileage unknown) A quick, reliable cruiser!
