Cheap Bankruptcy: 1957 Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud Series 1

The Silver Cloud was released in 1955 as Rolls/Bentley’s first major post-war design. The John P Blatchley design looks like something a James Bond villain would drive but is surprisingly affordable. Probably has something to do with the fact that you’d have to be an oil baron’s offspring to afford the maintenance, and the various issues would drive you to madness and a plot to destroy the free world. Find this 1957 Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud Series 1 offered for $13000 in Lake Havasu City, AZ via facebent rollsplace.

This car has been in storage off and on for over 40 years. It’s all original except for parts on the grill. Just had the brakes and master cylinder gone through. New fuel lines and coolant system flushed with some new hoses. It needs cosmetic TLC because it is original. It was in England up to1971 and it has some rust on the side rails but the main body including the floor is sound.

I know the pictures aren’t great, but the way the hood doesn’t appear to quite line up with the grill would make me suspect that this is actually Bentley that has had the grill swapped out to pick up Rolls Royce panache.
This was fairly common in the 80’s & 90’s when the Bentley name didn’t have the same gravitas as it does today (thanks to the Turbo R and such). The Bentley version was almost identical (one thing was the hood was rounded off a bit more to line up with the less angular Bentley grill), so many a smart limo company owner (and such) bought the cheaper Bentley, swapped the grill and voilà , you got a Roller.
I saw one of these like 15 years ago for sale – it was a salvage title because someone stole it, pulled the engine and then dumped it. Guy that was selling it had bought from the insurance company and installed a Cadillac 472 drive train – very professional looking swap. It was maroon and silver with a maroon interior – gorgeous car. Called the guy up, but somebody already snagged it.
