4-Door Mopar: 1974 Plymouth Valiant

This next car comes as a tip from SecondMouse who writes; You don’t see these too often anymore. Most of the survivors I’ve seen are two doors. A storied, compact Plymouth model with a ton of automotive importance (e.g., parent of the Barracuda) and a cool name, that eventually died of a broken heart in 1976 and was replaced by the (ack) Volare. This one looks like it is in pretty good shape. I know we’d all like it better if it was a two door with a 340 4 speed, but this one says it’s a V8 (I assume the 273 – the 340 in a four door in ’74 was only available in the Scamp package, of which only a few hundred were ordered, so look close), appears to be in good nick and the price is right, at $3995. Find this 1974 Plymouth Valiant for $3995 in Houston on CL.

The 273 cubic inch V-8 never made it into the 70’s. This car would have a 318 in it. Three on the tree would make it even cooler!
No 340 in 1973, in anything. It was replaced by the 360 in modesl that would have previously had a 340. It don’t believe a 4 door Valiant could be had with either.
Probably a 318, but they still respond well if you want to throw mods at it, and if you want a larger small block, it’s pretty easy to upgrade.
I wish the ad showed the quarter panels and other places it’s likely to rust. Everything that the seller was able to get with the potato-phone looks great for a $4000 Mopar. If the bodywork is OK all around, this one’s a real bargain.
Looks like a baby New Yorker. This had a convex rear window, for extra fun with the squeegee…
Who left the screwdriver under the hood ……lmao
