15k: The Futura Is Now: 1963 Ford Falcon Futura Sprint Convertible

The first generation Ford Falcon was the brainchild of future US Secretary of Defense Robert McNamara and featured a small unit-construction body on top of basic suspension (coil front, leaf spring rear).  The Falcon was designed chiefly with cost in mind as it was marketed as a high volume compact family car and sold very well when new. Find this 1963 Ford Falcon Futura Sprint Convertible for sale in Gardendale, AL currently bidding for $14,000 reserve-not-met with a few hours to go.

You can find all sorts of Falcons for sale any given day, but this one features an original 260 V8, 4-speed and factory tach.  A few nice options won’t turn this into a $36k Volvo Amazon, but the current bidding is lower than we’d expect.

The 260 cubic inch (4.3 liter) V8 was only rated at 164 horsepower when it was introduced in 1963, but it was considerably faster than the inline-6 versions and even 100% stock will be fine on the road today. A few small modifications can push power up 50-100hp without getting too crazy. 

The overall condition of this Falcon isn’t perfect, and the photographs aren’t the best we’ve ever seen, but nothing looks bad and even as the bidding goes up from when we picked it up at $10k a few days ago, this is still a great deal.
