Powa To The People! 1989 Nissan Pao

The Pao was part of Nissan’s Pike (don’t ask me why they were called Pike) car series that included the Pao, S-Cargo, Figaro, Be-1, and K10-Micra. Goofy names aside, the Pike cars were retro-styled econoboxes from the late ’80s and early ’90s that combined simple Nissan mechanical front-drive parts with funky styling and cool interiors. Whenever I find a Pao I find myself inexplicably writing about the car. They aren’t particularly fast, fun to drive, or that easy to go through drive-thrus in the USA…but there is something superbly cool about the little retro-styled JDM classics that is irresistible. Find this 1989 Nissan Pao offered for $6,000 in Venice, CA via craigslist.

Selling my beloved 1989 Nissan Pao. I shipped this over from Japan, never bothered registering it so please only inquire if registering a foreign car is something you can handle. (NOT currently registered in CA)

3 cylinder, this thing is as simple as they come as far as engines.
Parts for repairs can be easily bought from the very common Nissan Micra in Canada.
top speed 90 MPH
one dent in body above tire
minor trim rust spots from being at Marina
super light, gets 40-50MPG to the gallon, best beach buggy.

As a Pao owner I’m obliged to poke this with a stick:
WTF (replace W with who) owns a Pao and thinks it’s a 3 cylinder? Obviously someone who only opened the hood once for blurry Craigslist photos. And 90mph? Puh-leez. Mine’s in top shape and 80 is a stretch.
This was a good price for the less common stick shift as the automatic only has three ratios that sucks the fun out of these.
Despite its registration and rust issues it’s apparently sold.

I once had a Camaro that I thought was a V7 because I couldn’t get a socket anywhere near the zip code of that 8th spark plug.
