Bang for Buck: 1986 Mercedes-Benz 560SL

It must be a conspiracy. That is the only logical reason that the R107 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class (1971-1989) cars are so cheap. Nothing else this fancy, well-built, sexy, Euro, and 2-door is this cheap. Today’s example is the baddest of the bad — the 560SL, which means you get a drop-top with a 5.6 liter V8 offered for the price of the average VW Beetle. I don’t get it. I’m happy about it as someone who wants to buy one…but I don’t get it. Find this 1986 Mercedes-Benz 560SL offered for $16,500 in Venice, CA via craigslist.

Your definition of cheap is a lot different from mine.
No mention of timing chain tensioner replacement or which top(s) it comes with but seems like a reasonable deal. If you don’t need a place for your friends to sit and chat, replacing the bumpers with something more reasonable would be in order.
Oh, and a great color
Worked for a guy in the mid 80’s that had a shop that worked on European cars. His wife was a diehard Corvette fan and got a new one every two years. Her car was in the shop for work and he gave her a 560SEL he had just bought off a customer to drive. After a week she refused to give it back and never drove a Corvette again.
