Zombie Response: 1986 Pontiac Fiero Custom
Ahh, the Pontiac Fiero. The name Fiero is so achingly close in pronunciation to Ferrari, that the only logical thing to do is re-body your original Pontiac into something that looks more like an Italian speed machine. Like this 1986 Pontiac Fiero Custom offered for $2,000 in Appleton, WI via craigslist. Tip from Cain.
The seller doesn’t include much detail on the maker of this re-body, and I just don’t have the wherewithal, fortitude, or aptitude to scroll through the thousands of results when you google image search for Fiero body kits. Suffice it to say that this is a 2.8 GM V6 powered Fiero which means it has 135 horsepower to push around this green machine.

Hmm… what to call this…
Faux Rahr-ree?
Lambo Greeny?
We drink wine made from vines that have American root stock with the upper part all French (Cabernet, Merlot, Malbec, etc).
I suppose it seems only natural to start with American roots for this car, and graft something else on top.
Vintners call these vines "clones".
So you'd call this… anyone?
,,,Buehler? …Buehler?
That looks better than any of the "more authentic" Ferrari bodykits. Might be the green, or it might be that it isn't a blatant ripoff. There's way too many angles in the hood though, and is that water pooling in what looks like the fake vents?
Price is a lot more agreeable than most Ferrari replicas.
Again with the rule breaking on my part.
As the (only?) resident Fiero supporter on DT the one thing that comes to mind here is "custom" = "not good". Somebody had too much time and money on their hands, as is too often the case. Clearly an amazing amount of work but the result was not, in my opinion, good.
What rule are you alluding to?
I've always had a soft spot for the fiero, especially the iron duked first gen. That wedge shape just looked pure and clean to me. Also, my dad had one when I was 11 and I'm pretty sure that car stoked the nascent enthusiast fire in me.
The rule of my own design referenced in another post. Forget about it.
I felt really old reading your comment above.
Sorry, brother. I know what you mean, though; the enthusiast community online these days (that sounded a little codgy itself!) seems to be getting younger and younger. I think in another post you said something about the relative lack of appreciation in some people for 80s music, which I submit as a seminal and groundbreaking musical decade (speaking as a fan, not an expert so no flaming, please). I was shocked and saddened when I was asked by a 23y/o employee to tell them who Toto was… Over on the Toyota 4Runner forums there are plenty of…mature…members but I am routinely schooled by guys whose posts include references to mods they made to their trucks "between class last week".
Oh. And my barber has taken a distinctly sympathetic tone when asking me what I would like him to do with the top.
Ha ha, Doc! That's hilarious and I agree with you on all counts! Your comment above is is my favorite one in quite a while.
Whatever happened with the V8 Volvo? Weren't you bidding on one a while back? Maybe I'm a bit confused…can't remember.
Your memory hasn't betrayed you. I had a hard number that I bid up to and it wound up selling for just slightly over that sum. I will own one someday; just not yet.
I ended up bringing a 3rd gen 4Runner into the herd. It's a bit of a rare-ish bird, if not a true unicorn inasmuch as it left Japan equipped with the 3.7 quad cam v6 and the 5sp manual. My boys love jumping up into it (I mean, it HAD to be lifted) and showing up to school when it's all muddy and stuff. These trucks cannot be broken when employed as daily drivers for 3rd world revolutionaries so my soft roading and instrument toting shouldn't stress her too much.
Thanks for asking!
That's fantastic. Congrats!
Only Fiero supporter??? In addition to the good doctor, I routinely profess my love for the vehicular goodness that is the 1988 Fiero GT V6.
Oops. Sorry I missed that. It's good to know that I'm not alone on planet Fiero. Have either of you owned one?
Looks more like something a zombie would drive, not the response team.
