When it comes to cars, image can be everything. Face it. Even the most single-minded performance enthusiasts among us are keenly aware of how our cars look. As demonstrated by this C4 Corvette, a car’s image can be its downfall. Find this 1988 Chevrolet Corvette for sale in Liberty, MO for $4,500 via craigslist.
A decent, common V8. A low-slung aerodynamic body. 2 doors. RWD. Seats with good lateral support. Acceptable handling. A 4-speed manual transmission. 65K on the clock. Cheap to own. Taken together, these ingredients usually point to a car appreciating right out of the Daily Turismo price range. Instead, this car is valued somewhere between a 2008 Chevy Aveo and a 2009 Hyundai Elantra.
Over the years this car’s value has sunken like a middle-aged man in a waterbed weighed down with gold chains. As if the C4 did not have enough of an image problem, this one has been hit by hurricane Chachi. The white exterior plus white seats on brown carpet equal a perfect storm of rapey vibes and this is reflected in the car’s subterranean asking price.
Who knows when or if the C4 will become collectable. Don’t hold your breath. For now, however, it looks like a real bargain and a chance for those truly passionate drivers to walk the walk. Impressions be damned.
