Why Let Kids Have All The Fun: 2005 Subaru Outback XT
For a few generations now, the Impreza has been the fun car in Subaru’s USA lineup — it is the only car that gets the awesome STI (Subaru Tecnica International) treatment and is styled by a teenager. However, does that mean that only flat-brim wearing Impreza drivers get to have all the fun? Heck no — because Subaru put some of their secret sauce (it comes in a spinning noise maker) into most of their models including the all-grown-up Outback. Find this 2005 Subaru Outback XT offered for $6,500 in Boise, ID. Tip from FuelTruck.
I’m going to be honest with you and admit that I’m not entirely sure where the Outback ends up in Subaru’s lineup today, because there was a time when it was a trim option on a Legacy, but it was also sold as part of the Impreza lineup. Regardless, in this one it has a version of the 2.5 liter turbo flat-4 that is rated at 243 horsepower and mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. Not bad for a car designed for grown-ups.

Our 2005, has been great. Bought it new, 125k miles, typical issues, water pump, radiator, etc.
Really the only downside is must run premium, yeah Costco. Plenty go get up and go and about 22 MPG.
Very cool. This thing would wake up with a few turner mods.
I gotta disagree with Tim….Our same gen Outback, when it hit 75-80k miles, started approaching Maserati Bi-turbo levels of reliability, and I know many with the same experience. Wouldn't touch it with a ten foot pole.
I concur. I've owned three of these things, two for more than 50k miles each and it's as though there's a switch that flips at 70k that turns them into early-90's Hyundais.
I think we have this conversation every time one of these things hits DT.
