Whasssssssssssup? 1986 Ford Bronco II Eddie Bauer Edition
Whassssssssssup. Whazzzzzzzup? WHaaaaaaaazzzzzzzzzzzzzUUUUUUUUUP!!! If you remember those inane Budweiser whassup commercials from the late 90s/early 2000s…then I’m sorry I had to bring it up, but I’ve got an important point to make. Do you also remember those inane Eddie Bauer Edition packages sold on Fords starting in the mid 1980s and ending (mercifully) in 2010…because the whasssssup branding and the Eddie Bauer nonsense were similarly meaningless, but each a marketing triumph by their parent companies. At the end of the day, we all purchased more Bud and Fords…right? But in hindsight…what were they thinking? Neither made sense any more at the time than they do now. Find this 1986 Ford Bronco II Eddie Bauer Edition offered for $12,500 here on eBay buy-it-now located in Macomb, MI with a few hours to go.

Wow – other than that homemade center console, that thing's a total unicorn!
With prices through the roof for early Broncos, and with malaise era cars gaining some traction with those wanting some drivable irony, This one is bound to appreciate. I always thought the rear windows were pretty cool.
I always thought these had handsome color combos. The co-brand makes me think of Europe, where there are/were Bic Peugeots, Bon Jovi VWs, Billabong Renaults and (one I owned!) a Quicksilver Peugeot 206. I'm not sure why Europe has been so fascinated with the co-brand concept, but I'm glad they have been.
Overall, it's considerably more tasteful than the AMC Gucci Hornet. While I have no idea whether the Eddie Bauer branding sold more cars, at least the truck didn't end up slathered with weird, clashing colors or patterns.
Will have to add those to the bucket list of esoteric beauties.

We must bring back the Thursday twister with a compendium of co-branded cars.
