VR6 Swapped: 1979 Volkswagen Rabbit Mk1

A stock 1979 Rabbit would have been light, simple, slow, and economical. This one has been fitted with a 12-valve VR6 from a 1991 Passat, which changes the personality from “commuter appliance” to “front-wheel spin happy torque goblin.” Are you the next owner who might be willing to read through some massive old school wiring diagrams to solve whatever is causing the no start? Find this 1979 Volkswagen Rabbit Mk1 offered for $6000 in Iselin, NJ via facecrash rabbook.

Bought this car last year as a project car. Unfortunately laid off my job and haven’t been able to work on it.

It’s a 12v vr6 from a 91 passat. Body has 150k miles. The motor 130k.

Quarters fenders doors fresh paint. Motor cranks nicely but stopped turning over. Haven’t been able to see what the issue is. Needs some love for sure to get it back on the road.

Original interior. Rip on the passenger seat. Couple in the rear.
