The baja/safari thing has gotten so big that even OEMs are picking up on the thread — Porsche had some brand new Baja styled 911 Dakar, which had some impressive and meaty 19/20inch wheels/tire combo sitting under raised wheel arches. With only 2500 examples being planned and a monstrous price tag, don’t expect one in my garage anytime in the near future…so I jumped on craigslist and found the next best thing. A VW Bus that’s had most of its body removed and a Vortec V6 hung out back. Seems about right. And, SLO isn’t SLOW, it is San Luis Obispo. Find this 1970 Volkswagen Bus offered for $14,999 near San Luis Obispo, CA via craigslist.

Very unique retro 1970 Volkswagen Kombi Transporter Bus Buggy converted into a one-of-a-kind open air adventure machine.

100% street legal and has current California Registration, tags and license plate.

Engine has been converted to a brand new water cooled Chevy Vortec 4.3L V6 motor that is cooled by a polished aluminum electric fan cooled radiator with automatic thermostat fan control.

That is right: BRAND NEW CHEVY CRATE ENGINE… it doesn’t get more dependable than this!

A WWII era canteen was worked into the cooling system acting as a vintage / decorative coolant over flow tank.

Vintage wood storage crates are mounted under seats and above rear engine for plenty of passenger storage.

Chrome-moly roll cage throughout was professionally fabricated by a Baja Race Truck Builder and there is seating for 7.

Engine has very low hours and is like new (Less than 5k miles).
The Transmission has been seriously strengthened (like bullet proof) to handle the extra power of the engine.
