Topless Cruiser: 1963 Ford Falcon Convertible Restomod

The first generation Ford Falcon was introduced as Ford’s entry level compact in 1960, but it wasn’t until halfway through the 1963 model year that a convertible version or a the V8 Sprint model was released.  The seller doesn’t state if this car was originally a Sprint, but now it features a fuel injected Ford 5.0 V8 mated to an AOD transmission and it looks like a fantastic cruiser.  Find this 1963 Ford Falcon Restomod here on eBay bidding for $11,100 reserve-not-met with 3 days to go, located in Lombard, IL.

The Falcon shares its components and chassis with the Mustang and was sold in large numbers before the long hood, short trunk, beauty queen was released.  Falcon sales dropped and the Falcon was eventually replaced by the short lived Maverick, but not before the name was used on a bizarre low optioned version of the Fairlane…but that is a story for another time.

Today’s Falcon is powered by a 5.0 liter (302 cubic inch) Ford V8, fuel injected but still decidedly old-school, probably borrowed from an 80s Mustang.  The Falcon is ready for the V8 engine and is a decent driver if you spend the time to upgrade the ancient sub-components.  Disc brakes, rack-and-pinion steering, and beefy limited slip rear ends are just a click away from many internet vendors.

The builder of this Falcon convertible decided to use an automatic gearbox, which is a good fit for the cruiser characteristics of a convertible — this car is more at home on Hollywood Blvd than Mulholland Dr.
