Thursday Twister: Ran When Parked
Welcome to the Thursday Twister, a quiz with a twist. This week I am looking for the very best advertisement on Craigslist that you can find with the keywords: Ran When Parked. Oh yes indeed…this is going to be good.
A quick search located this trio of diesel powered deliciousness — 1979 Mercedes-Benz 300 TD Wagon +1987 Mercedes-Benz 190D + 1985 Cadillac Seville Diesel offered for $800 each in Phoenix, AZ. That is a fantastic collection of oil burners for the grand total of $2400.
What can you find that ran when borked parked.
Too much car for a single frame:
Plymouth Volaries – $800

comes with what appears to be a "healthy" does of mold inside…
Yes but that's MB mold, you cant just get that anywhere! Still – that's a whole lot of coin for something parked for 10-12 years even if it's MB gold (er, mold). Love this – "and no cracks or major ware on the interior. One crack in dash pad" – Is it one, or none…?

1978 Dodge Aspen in Spokane, WA for $425. Ran when parked 16 years ago.

1978 Dodge Aspen. $425.00. She ran great when parked in 2000, should be an easy project car. Would also make a great parts car. 98K original. 4 door, Auto. Also is equipped with a hand brake. I did hook a battery to it and it did turn over, so I am guessing the motor is fine.
The hand bakes seals it for me…
Please Santa, can I have an edit button this year?
My favorite part of this ad is the notion that he would consider this car's status as an "easy project" as a positive. A better project would be teaching your labradoodle to use the toilet or starting your own gang of roving sophists. Maybe I'm missing the mopar gene, though.
Vince, the later Benz in your original ad is not a 190D. Seller seems confused about what he has. That's a W124 sedan, which means if it's truly a 1987 diesel, then it's a 300D which was a one-year-only configuration for North America, and kinda desirable. Maybe a great deal for $800 if it doesn't need much except resuscitation.
Edit: yes, I can see the OM603 turbo diesel in a few of the tiny, grainy craigslist ads, so this is a 1987 300D. The later W124 diesels had naturally aspirated inline fives and sixes. This is a one year only deal: turbo six.

The best hope for this windowless wonder of a Series 1 XJ is life as a LeMons Limo. The seller doesn't know what year this Jaguar is,but he's quite confident that its a great fixer upper! Appears to be a Series 1 XJ, so it can't be newer than a '73; but he's not going to provide and gallderned smog cert for it! He says it ran when parked, but apparently no one noticed that its a GM small block.
Ever since this super sweet Longroof Benz slipped through my fingers almost three years ago, I've been hoping to find another. Here's the starter kit. $800 for a '79 300 TD Wagon, awaiting the installation of that LS1 sitting in the corner of your garage, along with some other 'ran when parked' diesel misfits, all priced at $800 for ease of keeping track of the seller's inventory pricing.
Thanks for that throwback, Huns; that wagon was deliciosa.
While this one might make a better restoration candidate, and this one might be a great one to fix and resell, I'm going to go with this 1962 Chrysler Imperial on the grounds that the seller says that it ran when parked… 41 years ago.

I've worked on a Triumph TR3 that was parked for 39 years. Poured a little oil into the chamber, cracked it loose with a big breaker bar, replaced the points and the rest of the usual ignition stuff, squirt of starter fluid and it was running. Smoking a bit, but running. Those old tractor motors were indestructible. Then checked the rest of the drive train by driving in the shop, pulling away from a dead stop in 4th gear. Yeah it would have been better off with a rebuild, but it was pretty impressive just how well it was running after all that time
That's funny, I'm fixing up tr3 that I parked in 1986 and that's my experience too.
The rear axle on the other hand is a nightmare

There are many options in the Twin Cities on Craigslist, and these three are my favorites:
Nice looking Jag for $600 but the car is obviously located in Australia.
Ran when Parked fifty one years ago.
And the completely believable in the past 17 years I just haven't had time to start the car.
Hmmm. According to the seller of the Camaro, it has an 5 speed "hydraulic" transmission. Must have been a one year only option….
These two are really just beyond me:

A nice 2005 Town and Country for $300. "didn't not have title". So.. has title?
