Three’s A Crowd: 1974 Saab Sonnett III

Some say there is a fine line between being a collector and a hoarder. But that’s only partially true. There is a difference and it depends on what you are amassing. If your collection is newspaper clippings related to something interesting — you could be a collector. But if it just every copy of your local rag — you’re a hoarder. Collecting cereal boxes — hoarder. Got more jewelry than Flavor Flav — collector. A few cabinets full of watches — collector? Beanie babies overflowing your bedroom — hoarder. But then we get to the delicate question of automobiles. Jay Leno, is he a collector or a hoarder? One could say that his cars are well maintained and interesting enough to bump him into the category of collector, but what about the Jay Leno wannabee up in the high desert plain who has collection of derelict Saab Sonetts? Collector or hoarder? Find this collection of three 1974 Saab Sonetts offered for $6000, $4000, and $3500 in Lancaster, CA via craigslist. Tip from Rock On!

My Dad is selling his 3 Saab Sonett III’s all in varying conditions. These were his retirement project cars until his cancer diagnosis. Many spare parts available as well. Including (but not limited to) 2 spare engines and transmissions, windows, windshields, rims, etc. etc. All were daily drivers at some point and just have minor issues due to sitting. Green one starts, drives, and runs like a champ. Other 2 will easily as well. Must sell soon. Make me an offer. Hes asking 6,000 for green, 4,000 for orange, and will take 3,500 for white. Must see to appreciate, they only made so many of these. Truly a rare find, especially to find this many at once which have had so much time and love put into them over the years.

Oh my!
That orange one has my name on it, but where to put it.
In the ad there is at least another orange Sonett parked in the background.
I’m a sucker for orange cars…
I don’t think anybody makes real orange cars anymore — Nissan has some various shades of copper that are close to orange, and most Ford/GM/Fiat econoboxes can be found in yellowy-orangish but to find a new car the color of a late model astronaut suit is indeed rare. You can’t even get a new Mini in orange.
If I ever get around to getting a Toyota/Subaru 86/GT86/BRZ, I believe I will get a white one, call that primer, and transform it to a proper orange, since that would be my preferred color too.
