The Saturn Deference: 1999 Saturn SL2 Homecoming Edition

The Saturn brand was launched by GM in 1994, and in 1999 they released a limited edition of their SL2 that was known as the “Homecoming Commemorative Edition”. I can’t think of a better car to “commemorate” Homecoming than a car that has a history of floating down the road and disappointing teenagers. For a few bucks over the price of the “usual” SL2, you could get special Gold Green metallic paint, tan cloth & leather interior, tan instrument cluster with “Homecoming” graphics on the tach, and “Homecoming” embroidered floormats. With this sort of visionary product planning, it was a SHOCK that GM murdered the Saturn brand late in 2009. Find this 1999 Saturn SL2 Homecoming Edition offered for $2,500 in Timnath, CO via craigslist. Tip from Rock On!

Rare 1999 Saturn SL2 Homecoming Commemorative Edition!Saturn was started in 1994, and 5 years later, to celebrate their “Homecoming,” they produced about 4000 of these limited-edition vehicles. The paint and wheels are unique to this vehicle, as is the black badging on the outside, and it’s loaded with upgraded options including ABS & traction control, power sunroof, power passenger mirror, power door locks with remote keyless entry, Saturn security system, cruise control and a rear spoiler! It also has 60/40 split fold down rear seats, rear child safety locks, a cassette player (talk about retro!) and the spare & jack are good and secured in place.
We have had this vehicle in our family for years and it has served us reliably. Let it serve you reliably!
Pros:
Great gas mileage
Reliable
Mechanically sound
Excellent road manners
Good tires & brakes
AC gets cold enough for a polar bearCons:
Uses some oil, you’ll have to check it regularly
Rear drivers side window doesn’t work
Upholstery is dirty
Floor mats are missing
Has some battle scars on the exteriorI will include snow chains for this vehicle, a can of Fix-a-Flat (you never know!), some extra LED interior light bulbs, and a transmission fluid filter.

Saturn started making cars in 1990 for the 1991 model year, not 1994.
Oh yeah, I made a typo. The first SL2 Homecoming Edition was launched in 1994, not the Saturn brand. I’m still not sure I understand why they called it Homecoming.
You guys must be youngsters. They used to hold the Saturn Homecoming event at the Saturn plant in Spring Hill, TN. I think they did it every year actually, but they apparently built some special models to sell every 5 years. Here’s more info on this celebration of abject mediocrity. https://testdrivejunkie.com/1994-saturn-homecoming-event/
