The Car You Didn’t Know You Needed: 2005 GMC Yukon

You see a lot of cars on this website that are fast, or fancy, or classic, or exclusive, or rare, or rugged. But today we’ve got a car that is reliable (despite its GM parts bin interior), un-exclusive, not rare, but surprisingly well preserved and low mile for what it is. This is the car that you drive everywhere and don’t do anything other than wash it for 100k miles. Yes, it’ll burn through fuel faster than a 747, but it seats 7 and anything that breaks can be fixed with pliers, superglue, and zip ties. Find this 2005 GMC Yukon bidding for $8,600 in White Marsh, MD via ebay with a few hours to go.

Here is your chance to get a great deal on a 2005 GMC Yukon. The classic Yukon has become more and more popular as the years have gone by as well as harder and harder to find. The 5.3L V8 4×4 has very low original miles and has only been driven an average of 3400 miles yearly. This Tahoe has all the power you need and all the space you want. Towing, camping, or just a daily driver, you can’t go wrong! Remember that this is a no reserve auction where the highest bidder always wins!

These beasts are usually beat to trash. There’s no way this was previously owned by a family with kids. It’s too clean. It’s nearly showroom fresh. That’s a significant amount of corrosion on the wheels though, so I’d want to really check the underside. But wheels are easily fixed or replaced. Someone will pay a premium for this truck, but they’ll get their money’s worth.
With a winning bid of $11,300 this was interesting. You can get the next generation of GMC Yukon for $11k with about 150k miles on it, but this older gen (GMT800) is known for being rugged, but maybe not as refined as the later GMT900 (2007+). But this wasn’t a bad price for the buyer if you ask me, because you don’t often find them in this nice condition.
2000-2004 Ford Excursions with V10 gas engines also are stone cold bargains. I’ve owned 3 of them (still have one). They need no significant engine work (save for, maybe, replacing a coil or coils) for the first 200,000 miles. A few small repairs here and there, but overall a great reliable vehicle. Drives like a truck, since it is one (built on the Ford truck chassis).
They get terrible mileage (10-14 mpg) so I always bought them when gas prices spiked. At one point, the gas V10s were selling for $10-15K *less* than the diesel versions. When you did the math between overall cost of diesel and regular gas, the difference just didn’t pencil out. The gas V10s were bargains.
AND… the gas Excursions had the same soundproofing as the diesels… which made for a surprisingly quiet ride with good Michelin tires.
