What did Queen Gertrude say in Shakespeare’s (if that’s his real name) famous play about the Prince of Demark? “The lady doth protest too much, methinks.” Ah yes, that’s the rub. The seller of this next thing spends a bit too much of his prose in saying this is NOT a kit car. What it is, however, is a front-engine rear-drive thing built on a Trans Am chassis that looks a good deal like a Magnum PI Ferrari. Find this 1986 Machiavelli Max bidding for $22400 in Jupiter, FL via eBay. Tip from Rock On!
Someone told me the other day; I’ve got a yellow Tojan, and I said; go to the pharmacy, they’ve got an ointment for that. It’ll be gone in a few days. But what he meant was, the Pontiac Tojan, which is a GM F-body (Camaro/Firebird) based kit car…whoops…not a kit car according to the seller…but it is an F-Body based 80s super car that was supposed to be a Ferrari competitor. Unfortunately, they don’t make a cream for that. Find this 1987 Pontiac Tojan offered for $25,000 in Conway, SC via craigslist
The 1970’s were a wonderful time. Disco, Bruce Springsteen and Meatloaf dominated the airwaves. OPEC embargoes domaited the car scene. Pontiac sold the most Trans Ams in 1979 (116,535) so it is a good bet people were tired of the malaise era vehicles. This blue-gold beauty appears to be one of the 30,728 Trans Ams built with a 403 cubic inch engine and T-tops that year. While the seller is brief in his description the pictures speak for themselves. Find this 1979 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am offered for $8500 in New York via craigslist.
It has been a few years (2010 to be precise) since the Firebird marque (along with the entire Pontiac lineup) was tossed away like a used Volkswagen coil pack. Pontiac enthusiasts and 80s detective show enthusiasts alike will gravitate toward the Rockford era Firebird Forumla…and that isn’t a bad thing at all because the Thunderchicken […]
Do you remember how terrible the cars were in the late 1970s? No? You’ve forgotten? Great! Time to pick up a classic from the disco era and re-live those fantasies about how great cars were “back in the day.” Find this 1977 Pontiac Firebird TransAm offered for $13,999 in San Antonio, TX via craigslist. Tip […]
Production of Pontiac’s Firebird ended in 2002 when the F-body was finally put to pasture and replaced by the Zeta chassis Camaro a few years later. Unfortunately, the carpocalypse claimed the Pontiac marque, which means we won’t see a Firebird TransAm version of the current Camaro. A pity, because the Firebird was always cooler than […]
These two identical-ish black and gold Smokey (not Smoky) and the Bandit Trans Ams went up on SF Bay Area craigslist and are only a couple of miles apart. That deserves a compero… except, hang on, these are 79’s and Smokey’s TA was a 77. Unless you mean SatB2, but that was an 80 (and […]
The 2nd generation Pontiac Firebird was sold from 1970 through 1981 – bridging the gap from the height of the muscle car madness through the worst of malaise era. When the gas/oil/emission crisis hit, the power densities dropped and giant winged bird hood emblems took over for actual performance. When the big Pontiac 6.6 liter […]
Yesterday’s post on the V8lvo Craigslist Trifecta highlighted three of the four horsemen of the Craigslist apocalypse (CAPT’N CAPSLOCK, Too Much Too List & No Engine/Trans) but clearly missing was the fourth and favorite horseman “Bring Your Own Wheels.” Seriously, who sells a car without wheels? Apparently lots of people, as we stumble upon pricing […]
